At Northern Hills Dental, your comfort is one of our highest priorities. We choose to invest in the most current technology because of the benefits it passes on to you.
Our state-of-the-art technology will make you more comfortable and your treatment more efficient. With updated technology, we’re also able to make highly accurate diagnoses, producing the best possible results.
State-of-the-Art Dental Lasers
A dental laser works on a similar principle to lasers used for medical procedures. Dr. Stone uses a small handheld tool to painlessly remove tissue by focusing a beam of light at the area to be treated. Since the laser targets the area precisely, treatment can be performed without affecting surrounding tissue.
With dental lasers, we can perform procedures that result in less bleeding, swelling, and post-procedure discomfort. Since there are no side effects, you’ll be able to go about your normal routine immediately after leaving our dental office.
What Problems Do You Treat with Dental Lasers?
Soft tissue dental lasers can be used to perform a number of procedures:
- When we place a dental crown, we can use our laser to gently reshape the gum line to create a perfect fit and reduce the risk of developing gum disease.
- Dental lasers can be used to reshape uneven gum tissue around the teeth for a natural, more uniform appearance.
- Lasers allow us to easily remove excess tissue that inhibits movement of the tongue (often referred to as a “tongue tie")
- Treatment of aphthous ulcers (canker sores).
- Periodontal pocket therapy (which helps disinfect the area of bone loss and leads to longer tooth retention).
In addition to our state-of-the-art dental laser, we also work with a variety of other technologies to make your care easier and more efficient.
Digital x-rays are a type of dental imaging that allows us to send images directly to a computer for storage. In a matter of seconds, we can view the images on a monitor.
One of the most important benefits of using digital imaging is that they emit almost 85–90% less radiation than traditional film x-rays. With digital x-rays, we can enlarge and enhance the digital image so that we can detect the tiniest changes that wouldn’t normally be seen during a visual exam.
DIAGNOdent Cavity Detector
Dental exams are necessary for protecting your oral health. But some patients find manual probing with traditional dental tools uncomfortable. At Northern Hills Dental, we have DIAGNOdent, a small handheld laser that Dr. Stone uses to scan the surface of your teeth to easily identify the smallest cavities. Since we can get such a detailed view of the cavity, we can precisely target the decay, making your treatment faster and less invasive.
Your safety is one of our highest priorities, and we use the Sterisil Water Treatment System because it provides superior water disinfection. The EPA requires less than 500 cfu/ml (a measure of bacteria in the water), and our water tests below 5 cfu/ml. You can feel safe knowing that the water we are putting into your mouth is as clean as it can be.
